MG announced that its newly launched MG4 electric vehicle has received more than 26,000 orders within 15 days of its market launch in China, surpassing the company’s earlier estimated monthly production capacity of 15,000 units. To meet demand, SAIC Passenger Vehicle’s production base has initiated a three-shift schedule to expand output while stating it will prioritize maintaining product quality. At the same time, MG has introduced what it calls a “Peace-of-mind delivery commitment.” Under the plan, if a customer’s vehicle is not ready for delivery within 39 days of the final order confirmation, the company will provide a compensation of 50 yuan (approx. 7 USD) for each additional delayed day, with a maximum subsidy of 2,000 yuan (approx. 280 USD). Deliveries will reportedly follow the sequence of confirmed orders to ensure fairness. The new MG4 was officially launched at the Chengdu Auto Show in late August 2025. The model is available in five trims with a limited-time subsidized price range of 65,800 yuan (approx. 9,140 USD) to 99,800 yuan (approx. 13,860 USD). Built on SAIC’s E3 pure electric platform, the MG4 is positioned as a compact electric hatchback. It comes with a six-in-one integrated electric motor producing a maximum output of 120 kW and a top speed of 160 km/h. Battery options include a 42.8 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) pack and a larger 53.9 kWh version. These provide CLTC-rated driving ranges of 437 km and 530 km, respectively. Both variants support fast charging, allowing a 30% to 80% charge in about 20 minutes. MG offers a semi-solid-state battery for the top trim, Anxin Edition. In terms of dimensions, the MG4 measures 4,395 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width, and 1,551 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. Exterior highlights include a redesigned front fascia with illuminated MG branding, arrow-shaped rear lights inspired by the MG Cyberster, and six available body colours. Entry-level models feature 16-inch wheels, while higher trims offer upgraded alloys. Inside, the MG4 is equipped with SAIC’s co-developed MG x Oppo Smart Connectivity system. Depending on trim, it comes with either a 10.25-inch, 12.8-inch, or 15.6-inch central infotainment screen, paired with a digital instrument cluster. Higher-end models are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip and Horizon Journey J6e platform, enabling functions such as high-speed NOA (Navigation On Assist), lane-keeping, automated lane changes, and parking assist. The MG4 competes in China’s compact EV segment against models such as the SAIC Volkswagen ID.3, which starts at 129,888 yuan (approx. 18,000 USD), and the Baojun Cloud, starting at 95,800 yuan (approx. 13,300 USD). In another news MG is rapidly establishing a dominant position in India’s electric vehicle market, a strategy that is paying off with impressive sales figures and an expanding portfolio. The company’s success is largely driven by its focus on a range of EVs that cater to different segments, from the affordable urban commuter to the premium luxury segment. The “Windsor EV”: India’s Bestseller MG’s most significant success story in India is the “Windsor EV.” This model has consistently been the country’s best-selling EV for ten consecutive months, with nearly 36,000 units sold since its launch. In July 2025, it achieved a new monthly sales record of over 4,300 units. The Windsor EV’s popularity is attributed to its competitive pricing and a unique “Battery-as-a-Service” (BaaS) model, which makes EV ownership more accessible by separating the cost of the car from the battery. This strategy has allowed MG to effectively compete with and, in some cases, surpass its major rival, Tata Motors, in the Indian EV market. A Diverse and Expanding EV Portfolio Beyond the Windsor EV, MG has built a strong EV lineup in India: MG ZS EV: This model was one of the first mass-market EVs in India and continues to be a strong performer, with sales contributing significantly to MG’s overall numbers. It is positioned as a premium electric SUV with a claimed range of over 450 km. Luxury and Performance: MG is also venturing into the high-end and luxury segments with the launch of the electric sports roadster, the MG Cyberster, and the luxury electric MPV, the MG M9. These models, retailed through a new premium channel called “MG Select,” are part of the company’s strategy to establish itself as an aspirational electric mobility brand in India. Future Outlook and Strategic Vision MG Motor India is now majority-owned by JSW Group, which is injecting new capital and a focus on local manufacturing. The company is confident that electric vehicles will soon account for a significant portion of its sales, with projections that EVs will make up 60-65% of its total sales by the end of 2025. This aggressive push is supported by a plan to launch 13 new “new energy vehicles” (NEVs) in the next two years. The company is also rapidly expanding its retail and service network to reach more customers across the country, further solidifying its position as a key player in India’s rapidly growing EV market. MG Motor Europe has demonstrated strong growth in the first half of 2025, solidifying its position as a major contender in the European automotive market. This performance is particularly notable given the overall contraction of the new car market in Europe during this period. Key Performance Highlights Sales Growth: MG achieved a substantial increase in new car registrations, with a 33.5% rise in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. This growth was fueled by 78,505 new car registrations across the continent, a significant jump from the previous year’s 58,800. Market Share Expansion: This sales surge allowed MG to increase its overall market share in Europe, rising from 1.7% in Q1 2024 to 2.3% in Q1 2025. In some key markets like the UK, MG’s market share has grown to 4.24%, surpassing its 2024 figures. Outperforming the Competition: MG’s success is even more impressive when compared to other automakers. The brand was identified as the most improved carmaker in Europe, with sales up by a third. It also notably overtook Tesla in new car registrations for the first time in the first half of 2025, selling 162,153 cars, a 22% increase. Drivers of Growth The strong performance is attributed to a combination of new model introductions and consistent demand for its existing popular vehicles. Hybrid Models: The MG ZS Hybrid+ and the MG HS Plug-in Hybrid have been key drivers of sales. The ZS Hybrid+ was the UK’s top-selling hybrid vehicle in the first quarter of 2025, demonstrating the brand’s success in appealing to consumers looking for efficient, value-driven alternatives to traditional internal combustion engines. Electric Vehicle (EV) Lineup: The award-winning MG4 Electric continues to be a cornerstone of the brand’s success.
